Denmark

Thorvaldsen's "The Christus"
Model for the statue in the Salt Lake City visitor's center.

The Little Mermaid
Copenhagen, of course, is home to the Little Mermaid, who is still on her rock; but shortly will be traveling to Japan for a length of time. She is much smaller and less noticeable than we expected.
Copenhagen

The best of Copenhagen for us was the Church which has the original Thorvaldsen "Christus" statue AND one of each of the 12 Apostles. All beautifully set up each side of the Church leading the The Christus. I don't even remember how old the statues are. The church had free entry and the statues could be approached and touched. Everyone was free to take pictures too. Perhaps The Christus had a small wrought iron fencing around it...I don't remember. Just the effect of looking up into the gentle face of the Saviour with his arms outstretched to all the world. This was a spiritual high! We didn't even care to see the palace! The other next loved place was Odense...the home and birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. Well preserved and presented AND visited! Our Danish friends tried to tell us the real story, so as not to get the "wrong" story; but I am still taken by Danny Kaye's portrayal of the "romantic, fairy tale" side of his life.

I don't know what happened to my Andersen home photo??? Oh well...

Hooray!!!! Here's our 385 volunteers for Mormon Helping Hands!

Tried as I might I could not get the Festinord pictures to download...5 times was more than a strike out! So I am glad they came up here.

That was really neat. I didn't know that there was a "other" Christus (sp?) statue that was the inspiration for the one in the visitors center. Thank you for sharing your experience.
